Solana wallet users will be able to access Midnight’s private token swaps and decentralized finance applications without installing a separate wallet. Sebastien Guillemot, chief technology officer of the Midnight Foundation, presented the integration on October 6, extending access to the privacy blockchain within the wider Cardano ecosystem.
Backpack and Nightly Support Midnight on Testnet
Guillemot named Backpack and Nightly as the two wallets currently supported in the test environment. The integration connects the wallet interface users already have with financial applications on Midnight.
According to his announcement, the planned functionality includes private swaps and other private DeFi interactions directly from a Solana wallet. The wallet provides access to those services, while Midnight supplies the programmable privacy used by its applications.
How Midnight Handles Private Financial Activity
Midnight lets developers combine public and private data within an application. Zero-knowledge proofs allow the network to verify that a transaction meets specified conditions without publishing the sensitive information used to establish them.
Its architecture supports shielded assets and selective disclosure. Financial details can remain outside the public ledger, while an application can define which records are available to authorized participants, such as counterparties or auditors.
The network also supports transaction fee sponsorship. Fees use DUST, a resource generated from registered NIGHT holdings. An application or another sponsor can cover that cost while the user retains authority to approve the action. Sponsorship is a separate application capability whose availability depends on the implementation.
Solana Wallet Mainnet Access Is Planned With Ledger v9
Guillemot tied the mainnet release to Midnight’s ledger v9 upgrade, planned for later in 2026. His announcement did not specify an activation date.
Backpack and Nightly are the confirmed wallets for the current testnet integration. The planned production release would extend that access to supported Midnight financial applications on mainnet, allowing users to interact through their existing Solana wallets.
