Cardano News - Sony-Owned S.BLOX Lists Cardano and NIGHT in Japan

S.BLOX, a Japanese crypto service owned within Sony Group, began offering Cardano and $NIGHT on August 24. The platform now supports direct spot trading against the Japanese yen, giving local customers access to ADA and NIGHT through the same registered provider.

According to the official S.BLOX announcement, NIGHT is the first listing of the asset among crypto exchanges registered with Japan’s Kanto and Kinki Local Finance Bureaus. Charles Hoskinson said the Midnight listing also required S.BLOX to establish Cardano infrastructure, although the platform has not published technical details about that integration.

S.BLOX Opens ADA/JPY and NIGHT/JPY Trading

S.BLOX’s published trading rules identify ADA/JPY and NIGHT/JPY as spot markets executed directly between customers and the company rather than through an order-book exchange.

Only market orders are available. Submitted orders cannot be amended or cancelled, while prices include the spread between the buying and selling rates quoted by S.BLOX.

The minimum order is one ADA or one NIGHT. Individual orders are capped at 25,000 ADA and 250,000 NIGHT, with both markets quoted in increments of 0.01 yen.

S.BLOX has not published asset-specific information confirming whether deposits and withdrawals are available for the two newly added assets. The company also has not identified which blockchain networks would be used for external transfers.

The platform operates under Kanto Local Finance Bureau registration No. 00016 and belongs to the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association. It now sits within Sony Group through Sony On-chain Technologies, a wholly owned Sony subsidiary.

Sony’s earlier corporate documentation records that S.BLOX was acquired through Quetta Web in August 2023. The business was renamed from Amber Japan in July 2024, while its WhaleFin trading service was redesigned and relaunched under the S.BLOX brand in January 2025.

To mark the new markets, S.BLOX launched promotional campaigns running through September 30. Eligible customers can receive up to 14,000 yen in NIGHT and up to 10,000 yen in ADA after meeting the specified account and trading requirements.

NIGHT Secures Its First Supported Exchange in Japan

S.BLOX defines NIGHT’s domestic first narrowly. As of August 24, it is the first exchange registered with the Kanto or Kinki Local Finance Bureau to offer the asset.

The official Midnight Network account separately described S.BLOX as Midnight’s first supported exchange in Japan. It said the listing expands access to the ecosystem through a Sony Group company in an established digital-asset market.

Midnight is a privacy-focused blockchain developed as a Cardano partner chain. Its architecture allows applications to combine public blockchain records with private data controlled by users.

Developers can use Midnight to build applications involving identity, financial information and business records with programmable disclosure controls. A cryptographic proof can confirm that a requirement has been satisfied without publishing the complete information used for verification.

$NIGHT is Midnight’s native utility token. Holding the asset continuously generates DUST, the resource used to power transactions without consuming NIGHT itself.

The S.BLOX announcement also described the token’s relationship with Cardano. NIGHT was initially issued and distributed on the Cardano network. Following the launch of Midnight’s native blockchain, native NIGHT and its Cardano-based version, commonly called cNIGHT, circulate with corresponding quantities on a one-to-one basis.

S.BLOX has not disclosed whether its NIGHT market uses the native Midnight asset, Cardano-based cNIGHT or infrastructure supporting both versions. No exchange-operated conversion or custody mechanism has been announced.

Midnight’s Listing Brings Cardano Support to S.BLOX

Hoskinson said S.BLOX had not previously traded ADA and that preparing the platform for Midnight required it to install and create Cardano infrastructure.

The introduction of ADA and NIGHT on the same day is confirmed by S.BLOX. The specific technical connection between the two listings currently comes from Hoskinson’s account, as neither S.BLOX nor Sony has identified a Cardano node, custody provider, wallet system or deposit and withdrawal infrastructure used by the platform.

The launch adds direct ADA/JPY access through a Sony Group-owned Japanese service. It also places Cardano support inside the exchange environment used for Midnight’s first Japanese market entry, connecting the partner-chain relationship with a regulated distribution channel.

No wider commercial partnership involving Sony, Cardano or Midnight has been announced. The available statements do not include PlayStation, Sony entertainment businesses, Soneium or joint products beyond the S.BLOX listings.

Japanese customers can now execute market trades for ADA and NIGHT against the yen on the same platform. Midnight gains its first supported exchange in Japan, while Cardano enters S.BLOX alongside it with a new Sony-linked route into the Japanese market.
