Cardano News - Cardano Foundation Details How Indian Police Track Criminal Evidence on Cardano

The Cardano Foundation published a case study on October 26 detailing how police in India's Uttar Pradesh state use Cardano to track forensic evidence during criminal investigations.

Developed by TrivolveTech in collaboration with Quixy, the Forensic Management System (FMS) records cryptographic fingerprints of evidence scans and laboratory results on Cardano mainnet.

The system has been operational since 2025. The Foundation's latest publication provides a closer look at how the technology supports evidence handling in active police cases.

How Uttar Pradesh Police Track Forensic Evidence

Criminal evidence frequently passes between police stations, storage facilities, and forensic laboratories. Maintaining an accurate record of who handled each item, when it was accessed, and where it was transferred is essential to preserving the chain of custody.

According to the Cardano Foundation, conventional evidence handling in Uttar Pradesh relied on case numbers visible to everyone processing the same evidence.

TrivolveTech's system introduces a different approach.

FMS assigns separate identifiers to individual handlers, allowing police officers and laboratory personnel to work with the same evidence without unnecessarily exposing connections between records.

Each participant accesses information relevant to their responsibilities, while the system maintains a record of evidence handling.

When an evidence container is scanned or a laboratory analysis is recorded, the corresponding activity becomes part of the digital audit trail.

The objective is to make unauthorized changes detectable while establishing clearer accountability across departments involved in criminal investigations.

How Cardano Secures Evidence Records Without Exposing Sensitive Data

Police officers interact with FMS through a conventional application, while Cardano operates in the background.

Rather than storing confidential evidence directly on a public blockchain, the system generates cryptographic hashes representing the recorded information.

These fingerprints are committed to Cardano mainnet, creating references that can be checked against the original records.

If a record is subsequently modified, its newly calculated hash will no longer match the fingerprint previously recorded on-chain.

The process provides evidence of record integrity after registration. It does not independently establish whether the original evidence was accurate or collected correctly.

FMS also incorporates decentralized identifiers (DIDs) to associate authorized personnel with their recorded activities.

According to the Foundation's case study, Uttar Pradesh police chose to record individual data entries through separate blockchain transactions rather than combine them into less expensive batches.

That decision increases transaction costs but gives individual records their own blockchain transaction references.

Existing Police Deployment Supports a Proposed 9.6 Million ADA Expansion

The Foundation's publication follows a separate funding proposal submitted by TrivolveTech to Cardano's Treasury.

The company is requesting 9.6 million ADA to develop the broader Police Force Management System (PFMS), extending blockchain-backed records beyond forensic investigations into evidence storage, prosecution, and courtroom proceedings.

The proposed first deployment would take place in Telangana, another Indian state.

TrivolveTech reports that the existing FMS has generated more than 156,000 Cardano mainnet transactions, with approximately 11,000 additional transactions per month. These figures are company-reported activity metrics, not an independent measurement of investigative outcomes.

Under the PFMS proposal, the Cardano Foundation would administer Treasury funding, while TrivolveTech would develop the broader system.

The proposal still requires approval through Cardano's governance process.

The distinction is significant: FMS is already being used in Uttar Pradesh, according to the Foundation, while the proposed expansion into Telangana remains dependent on funding approval and implementation.

The existing deployment provides a working component for TrivolveTech's proposal, but the broader PFMS system has not yet been funded or deployed.
