Cardano News - Daedalus 11.6.0 Adds Recovery for Mithril Sync Damage on Cardano

Se7en Labs released Daedalus 11.6.0 on October 24, introducing automated detection of blockchain data gaps and improvements to recovery, transaction handling, and application reliability.

The mainnet update addresses damage that could remain after partial Mithril synchronization in versions older than 11.5.0. While the previous release prevented new gaps from forming, Daedalus 11.6.0 can identify existing damage and offer a recovery procedure without requiring users to diagnose the problem manually.

Daedalus Detects Existing Mithril Sync Problems

Unlike lightweight Cardano wallets, Daedalus runs a full Cardano node on the user's computer and maintains a local copy of the blockchain. This allows independent verification of network data but also makes reliable synchronization essential.

Mithril accelerates synchronization through cryptographically verified blockchain snapshots. However, earlier implementations of partial synchronization could leave sections of the local blockchain incomplete, potentially preventing the node from processing additional blocks or continuing synchronization.

Daedalus 11.6.0 introduces checks for these conditions. When the application identifies missing blockchain data, it offers a Rebuild blockchain data option instead of leaving users to investigate the failure themselves.

The Diagnostics panel now includes a dedicated Blockchain data section displaying detected damage, including the affected slot and time. Users can copy this information into diagnostic reports for technical support.

The rebuild option is also accessible directly from Diagnostics, even when no damage has been detected.

Verified Mithril Recovery Requires User Confirmation

The recovery process includes additional safeguards intended to prevent unnecessary data loss or unexpected synchronization behavior.

Before replacing blockchain data, Daedalus checks whether a suitable Mithril snapshot is available and whether the destination folder is accessible. It also verifies available storage space when the required information can be obtained.

Recovery begins only after explicit user confirmation. The operation replaces local blockchain data while preserving the wallet data stored on the computer.

If recovery fails or is interrupted, Daedalus retains the information needed to manage the recovery process. It also avoids silently restarting a complete blockchain synchronization from genesis.

Startup monitoring has been improved. If cardano-node produces no disk writes for five minutes during startup, users can choose to restart the node or continue waiting.

Mithril downloads also indicate when progress is paused because the application is waiting for network connectivity to return.

Ledger and Trezor Transaction Fixes Improve Reliability

Beyond blockchain recovery, Daedalus 11.6.0 resolves several problems affecting transactions and application startup.

The release restores Send confirmation dialogs and fixes transaction submission following approval through Ledger or Trezor hardware wallets.

It also corrects an issue where canceling the preparation of one hardware-wallet transaction could interfere with another transaction. Transaction approvals now remain associated with their originating wallets until submission is completed.

Additional fixes address Electron startup failures and Windows and macOS packaging issues. Electron has been upgraded to version 42.11.14, while the cardano-wallet backend moves to v2026-10-07. The underlying cardano-node version remains 11.1.3.

Linux users can still access the portable .bin installer, although it is now deprecated in favor of native Debian, RPM, and Arch packages, along with NixOS support.

Se7en Labs recommends that all Daedalus users upgrade to version 11.6.0. For installations affected by older partial Mithril synchronizations, the release provides a recovery path using a verified snapshot, with the replacement of blockchain data remaining under the user's control.
