Cardano News - Amaru Beta Adds Stake Pool Tools and Validation Fixes for Cardano

PRAGMA released a new beta version of Amaru on October 29, adding tools for stake pool operators and changes to transaction validation. Amaru is an alternative Cardano node implementation written in Rust.

Version 10.11.20261029 arrives as the project works toward producing blocks on Cardano mainnet. Amaru can already operate as a relay, while an earlier beta introduced block forging on test networks.

New Commands for Cardano Stake Pool Operators

The release adds three commands for inspecting information used in stake pool operations. One displays details from a pool’s operational certificate, including its pool ID, sequence number and key-evolving signature period.

Another command checks the current KES period and the time remaining before the keys need to be rotated. KES keys are used to sign blocks and must be renewed periodically. A third command derives a pool ID from its cold verification key.

The update also changes the command used to generate KES keys. Operators can now use amaru pool kes create in place of the previous command.

Transaction Validation and Plutus Changes

The beta strengthens ledger checks for transactions with invalid execution budgets, unauthorized collateral inputs or missing witnesses. It also addresses operations involving unregistered stake credentials and delegated representatives.

A separate fix corrects how Amaru accounts for Treasury donations from transactions whose Plutus scripts fail validation. The release notes also list fixes for block and transaction decoding, alongside improvements to the compatibility of its Plutus evaluator with the Cardano reference implementation.

For Plutus execution, release builds now use the Malachite arithmetic library. The change introduces a dependency covered by the LGPL license, according to the release notes.

Amaru’s Path to Mainnet Block Production

An earlier Amaru beta released on October 22 added the ability to forge blocks on test networks when supplied with the required KES and VRF keys and an operational certificate. Mainnet block forging was disabled in that release.

Amaru’s roadmap lists the Minimum Viable Block Producer milestone for November 2026, followed by a fuller block producer phase in December. A separate Dijkstra and Leios milestone is listed for January 2027.

The Amaru team is also organizing a node diversity workshop in London on November 12 and 13. The agenda includes discussion of implementation costs and community needs for future Cardano upgrades.
