Midnight News - Crypto Crow Highlights Midnight Ledger 9 and Plans More Cardano DeFi Coverage

Crypto Crow, whose real name is Jason Appleton, highlighted Midnight’s Ledger 9 upgrade and the prospect of simpler decentralized finance applications during a livestream covering the crypto market.

He also discussed his NIGHT trading position and outlined plans to feature more Cardano DeFi builders on his channel, including people working across the Cardano and Midnight ecosystems.

Ledger 9 Brings Smart Contracts Together

Crow focused on Ledger 9’s ability to let one smart contract call a function in another within the same transaction. Known as composability, the feature allows developers to connect contract functions when building applications.

Midnight has given the example of combining a token approval, a swap, and a liquidity pool deposit into a single user action through connected contracts. Ledger 9 also adds cryptographic standards intended to support wallets, custody providers, and cross-chain applications.

The upgrade was activated on Midnight mainnet during the network’s November hard fork. A separate private composability milestone remains on the project’s roadmap for the first quarter of 2027.

A Simpler Way to Access DeFi

Another idea that caught Crow’s attention came from Monument Bank’s Mintu Bhandari: making decentralized finance feel as straightforward as ordering a ride through an app, with Midnight providing privacy and security behind the scenes.

Crow expressed interest in an experience that would allow people to use DeFi without having to navigate its underlying technical complexity. He described that approach as something he wants to see developed.

The livestream did not introduce a product or launch date for the concept. Crow was discussing a possible direction for DeFi rather than presenting an application currently available to users.

Midnight is designed for applications that need to protect personal or business information while allowing selected data to be disclosed when required. Its developers have identified financial applications among the potential uses for that approach.

NIGHT Position and Plans for Builder Coverage

Crow also discussed his own NIGHT trading position. He said it had been down by more than $3,500 at one point as the market moved, before its value continued to fluctuate.

During the livestream, he noticed NIGHT had returned to approximately $0.04. He suggested the token might have reached a local bottom but acknowledged that its price could still move lower. He also expressed the view that Cardano could benefit if Midnight succeeds.

Responding to a viewer who questioned Cardano’s future, Crow rejected the suggestion that the ecosystem was finished and said Midnight was still getting started.

The creator also outlined changes he wants to make to his channel. He plans to follow Alpha Growth and its partners in more detail and invite more Cardano DeFi builders to discuss their work. His goal is to introduce viewers to people developing products across Cardano and Midnight, although he did not name guests or provide a schedule.
