Artists and visitors will gather on November 7 and 8 for the first Midnight Art Festival, an online event held inside the Carda Station virtual world. Presented by ArtForce, the program will bring together visual artists, musicians, poets, photographers, and other creators for exhibitions and conversations across two days.
The festival builds on the work of Road Art, a project founded by JCoco that has organized virtual exhibitions and created spaces for artists to share their work. Visitors will be able to explore its galleries in Carda Station, a metaverse connected to the Cardano blockchain.
A Festival Built Around Artists
Road Art founder JCoco is an artist and Midnight ambassador leader whose project combines art, virtual experiences, and blockchain. In an earlier invitation to artists, she described ArtForce as a creative community where people working across different disciplines could share the same event.
The invitation was open to painters, poets, musicians, photographers, textile artists, filmmakers, and NFT creators. JCoco noted that participation was free for artists and that applicants did not need a gallery résumé. Instead, they were asked to submit an application and a piece of work they wanted to share.
The people supporting the Road Art community include Solara, an administrator and moderator of its Discord server, and Jimbo James, who serves as an administrator, moderator, and co-host. Road Art also identifies Alex as a collector and supporter of its artists who takes part in races on the Carda Station racetrack.
Road Art’s website presents work from earlier exhibitions and provides access to two galleries in Carda Station. The project also lists some works from previous shows as NFTs available through WayUp.
The festival venue has its own connection to the artists taking part. According to an ArtForce introduction, Carda Station co-founder JoyousT built galleries and festival grounds for the event and contributed a work called Stick Man to the show.
Inside the Midnight Art Festival
The festival combines exhibitions with opportunities to meet the people behind the work. Road Art’s program includes concerts, artist Q&As, contests, and a treasure hunt. The festival announcement also highlights races on the Carda Station racetrack and installations displayed throughout the virtual environment.
Among the guests listed by Road Art are JCoco, Maestro, Mickey Kaplan, Mona Mulligan, Mount Holy Fox, Tom Jon, and BaggyPants. Midnight City Agents also appear on the list of participants.
Visitors will be able to explore the Road Art galleries and a space described in the festival announcement as Midnight Headquarters, which will feature curated artwork and community memes. The program includes both visual art and other forms of creative expression, with Midnight Radio highlighting artists working in music, poetry, photography, textiles, and film.
Carda Station is designed as a lunar base where users can explore with avatars, meet other visitors, and participate in games and events. The project describes its available version as pre-alpha, an early stage of development.
