USDM Targets Airline Payments as Moneta Expands Cardano Stablecoin Strategy
Moneta is developing a stablecoin payment solution for an unnamed airline services company operating across 13 countries. The USDM team also outlined how NBX card access and Cardano treasury contracts could expand the stablecoin’s use beyond DeFi.

Moneta is working with an airline services company on a closed-loop stablecoin system designed to simplify payments across multiple national currencies.
Speaking on A Dose of Alpha, USDM Business Development Lead James Meidinger said the company operates in 13 countries and is exploring a single digital currency for customer prepayments and internal settlement.
Meidinger appeared alongside Marco, a member of Moneta’s board of directors, for a broader discussion about enterprise payments and Cardano stablecoin liquidity. The airline company was not identified, while no deployment date or expected transaction volume was disclosed.
Moneta Develops USDM Payment Model for Airline Services
The airline services company operates across markets with different currencies and regulatory requirements. According to Meidinger, the proposed system would provide a common settlement asset for payments and prepayments across its international network.
Moneta is developing the solution as a white-label product adapted to the company’s operations rather than as a general consumer application. The model could reduce the number of currency conversions handled by its finance department while giving participating businesses a shared payment asset.
USDM is a fiat-backed stablecoin issued on Cardano and designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the US dollar. Unlike algorithmic stablecoins and yield-bearing products, $USDM is positioned primarily as a payment and value-transfer asset supported by regulated reserve structures.
The system could later connect with external liquidity and payment infrastructure, allowing the stablecoin to move beyond the company’s closed network. Moneta has not confirmed whether the initiative has progressed from development and commercial discussions into a contracted production rollout.
NBX Visa Flex Extends USDM Into Card Payments
The interview also covered Moneta’s relationship with Norwegian Block Exchange, or NBX, which issues USDM within the European Economic Area through a separate regulated reserve structure.
The NBX Visa Flex card connects multiple currency balances to one payment card. Users can choose which supported balance to spend through the NBX application, including USDM, fiat currencies and other tokenized assets.
This structure allows customers to use the stablecoin for conventional card payments without manually selling it before each transaction. It also gives USDM a consumer payment route beyond its existing role in Cardano lending and liquidity markets.
Meidinger said Moneta is working with additional payment providers capable of holding digital assets and converting them into supported fiat currencies. These services could allow companies to integrate stablecoin payments without developing their own custody, conversion and settlement infrastructure.
Direct issuance through Moneta remains subject to jurisdictional availability and customer verification. NBX provides a separate route for users in Europe and other supported international markets, with identity or business verification required for minting and redemption.
USDM Adds a Stable Option for Cardano Treasury Funds
Moneta is also positioning USDM as a treasury management asset for Cardano projects funded over longer delivery periods.
Cardano grants may be approved in the network’s native asset, while expenses such as salaries, contractors and infrastructure are commonly denominated in fiat currencies. Changes in the value of an allocation can therefore affect the funds available when project milestones become payable.
Meidinger said $USDM could be held within treasury reserve contracts that release funds after specified deliverables are completed. Converting part of an allocation into a stable asset would reduce exposure to market fluctuations during a six or twelve-month execution period without removing governance controls or milestone requirements.
USDM already serves Cardano users across lending, liquidity and prediction-market applications. The airline initiative and NBX card infrastructure extend that role toward enterprise settlement and everyday payments. A live deployment with the airline services company would move the white-label model from a proposed payment system into a measurable source of recurring activity on Cardano.
