USDM Goes Live on Midnight After Mainnet Transfer From Cardano

VIA Labs has completed a live end-to-end USDM transfer from Cardano to Midnight, moving the integration beyond Pre-Prod and Preview testing. The launch gives Cardano’s fiat-backed stablecoin a production route into Midnight applications.

Cardano News - USDM Goes Live on Midnight After Mainnet Transfer From Cardano

The Cardano-Midnight USDM rail is now operating on mainnet after a live transfer moved the stablecoin from Cardano to Midnight end to end. VIA Labs had previously demonstrated the same cross-chain flow in test environments, but the new deployment moves the infrastructure into production.

The published transfer flow shows the transaction being submitted on Cardano, indexed by VIA Labs, attested and validated, and then delivered on Midnight. The recorded process completed in 2,930 seconds.

USDM Moves From Cardano Testnets to Mainnet

The mainnet launch follows VIA Labs’ earlier demonstration between Cardano Pre-Prod and Midnight Preview.

During that test, USDM was transferred from Cardano to Midnight and then returned to Cardano. VIA Labs also introduced an NPM package allowing developers to initiate cross-chain transfers programmatically, while mainnet support was still listed as a future step.

That support is now active.

VIA Labs announced its infrastructure was going live on both Cardano and Midnight on August 13, with USDM becoming the first asset enabled between the two networks.

The integration is designed around a unified supply model rather than an independently backed third-party wrapped token. Moneta Digital says VIA Labs enables USDM to move across supported networks while maintaining a single coordinated supply.

Cardano Stablecoin Liquidity Reaches Midnight

USDM is a fiat-backed stablecoin issued by Moneta Digital and originally minted as a Cardano native asset. Moneta reports that each USDM is backed 1:1 by dollar reserves, with reserve information verified on-chain.

The VIA Labs integration extends where that Cardano-based liquidity can be used.

$USDM can now move into Midnight applications while remaining connected to the issuer-controlled supply model.

Midnight is built around programmable privacy, allowing developers to combine public blockchain state with private application data and selectively disclose information when required. Its financial use cases include confidential lending, private trading, institutional settlement and regulated tokenized assets.

USDM does not become private by default when it reaches Midnight. Instead, developers gain a stable-value asset that can be incorporated into applications using Midnight’s privacy controls for data, business logic and transaction conditions.

That creates a production path for payments, DeFi, treasury operations and financial applications that require both stable value and more controlled information disclosure.

USDM Gains a Role Inside Midnight Apps

The integration already extends beyond transferring value between chains.

Sundae Labs said Midnight applications using its Capacity Exchange can allow users to pay transaction costs with USDM rather than requiring them to hold DUST directly. The Capacity Exchange handles the underlying network resource, reducing one of the additional steps users would otherwise face before interacting with Midnight applications.

This gives $USDM a second role beyond cross-chain settlement. It can serve as both transferable stable value and, in supported applications, a payment asset that abstracts Midnight’s native transaction resource from the user.

The result is a more direct connection between Cardano liquidity and Midnight application activity: USDM supplies the stable-value layer, VIA Labs provides the cross-chain rail, and Capacity Exchange can remove the requirement for users to acquire DUST before using supported apps.
