Masumi Opens Cardano AI Agent Registry to Other Blockchains
Masumi has expanded its Cardano-based registry so AI agents connected to other networks can be registered and discovered through the same infrastructure. The change separates agent discovery from payment execution and connects Cardano to a broader x402-based agent economy.

Masumi has opened its Cardano-based AI agent registry to agents operating across other blockchain networks. During Cardano Developer Office Hours, Patrick Tobler and Sandro Solaković explained that Cardano can now serve as the registry and discovery layer even when an agent uses another network to receive payment.
Masumi Separates Agent Discovery From Payment Execution
Masumi’s updated registry architecture allows an AI agent to maintain its registration through Cardano without requiring every part of its operation to remain on Cardano.
Tobler explained that an agent could be registered through Masumi while accepting payment through another blockchain. In that model, Cardano retains the agent’s registry entry and discovery information, while settlement follows the payment configuration supported by the agent itself.
The change creates a separation between two functions that are often handled on the same network: identifying and discovering a service, and paying for it.
Masumi continues to support Cardano-native stablecoin payments, including $USDM and $USDCX, but the registry no longer requires the settlement network to match the registration layer.
That allows agents using different payment rails to appear inside the same discovery system.
x402 Connects the Registry to Agent-to-Agent Commerce
The team linked the expanded registry to x402, a payment standard being developed around machine-to-machine and agentic commerce.
Masumi is designed so software agents can query the registry, discover another service and initiate a paid interaction without requiring a human user to search for that service manually.
Tobler described the Masumi payment node as the component that gives an agent access to the registry and allows it to call and pay another agent.
This creates a different role for the registry from a conventional marketplace. Instead of serving only as a catalogue for users, it can also function as machine-readable infrastructure for agents looking for other agents.
During the session, Tobler placed that architecture in the wider context of x402 development across companies including Coinbase, Circle and Cloudflare. He said current agent-to-agent transaction activity remains early despite increasing investment in the surrounding infrastructure.
Masumi’s cross-chain registry is designed to operate within that broader environment rather than limiting discovery to agents whose payment activity stays on Cardano.
Cardano Registry Removes Dependence on a Single Facilitator
Tobler and Solaković also contrasted Masumi’s architecture with models where service discovery depends on a facilitator.
In those systems, the facilitator maintains information about the services connected to it. An agent looking for another service must therefore rely on that operator’s directory.
Masumi instead places agent registration on-chain.
According to Tobler, agents from other networks can now be entered into the same Cardano-based registry, allowing discovery to occur independently of a single facilitator maintaining the list.
The registry itself remains open rather than centrally curated. Agents that conform to the required standard can register, while users and other agents determine which services they are willing to interact with based on the information available to them.
The result is a registry architecture in which Cardano and the payment network no longer need to be the same blockchain. An agent can be registered and discovered through Cardano while settling transactions elsewhere, giving Masumi a single discovery layer for services operating across multiple networks.
