IOG YouTube Channel Compromised by Fake Crypto Giveaway
An unauthorized livestream presented as a Project Catalyst town hall promoted a crypto giveaway through Input Output Group’s official channel. No verified wallet addresses or user losses have been linked to the incident.

Input Output Group’s YouTube channel was compromised on September 18, exposing approximately 169,000 subscribers to fraudulent content. IOG and Charles Hoskinson warned users not to trust the broadcast, open its links or send funds while the organization worked with YouTube to secure the account.
IOG Warns Users About Compromised Channel
IOG told users to avoid its YouTube channel until further notice. Hoskinson said the account appeared to have been compromised and that IOG was working with YouTube to remove the unauthorized content and reset its credentials.
The incident affected the official Input Output Group channel operating under the @InputOutputGroup handle. The account normally publishes Cardano development updates, technical presentations and ecosystem interviews, giving the fraudulent stream direct exposure to an audience that includes Cardano developers and ADA holders.
IOG did not disclose how the attackers gained access. The reference to resetting credentials does not establish whether the compromise involved phishing, stolen login details, an active browser session or another method.
Fake Project Catalyst Stream Promotes Giveaway
Reports based on the broadcast described it as a Project Catalyst town hall featuring footage that resembled Hoskinson. A QR code appeared alongside a promise to “double your wealth.”
The video was described as potentially AI manipulated, but no technical analysis has confirmed that it was a deepfake. IOG and YouTube have not identified whether the stream used synthetic footage, altered audio or previously recorded material.
The QR code destination was not publicly identified. No connected website, Cardano wallet or other blockchain address has been verified. Reports indicated that the stream remained live for almost two hours, while its exact duration and total number of viewers were not disclosed.
No Confirmed ADA Losses or Cardano Breach
IOG has not reported any confirmed victims or financial losses. Without a verified ADA address or transaction record, the amount potentially sent through the scam cannot be established through blockchain data.
Available information limits the compromise to IOG’s YouTube account. No evidence connects the incident to Cardano’s mainnet, user wallets, node infrastructure, GitHub repositories or development systems.
The channel was accessible later on September 18 under its regular name, with its archive of official videos still visible. IOG had not issued a formal restoration notice.
