Cardano News - Charles Hoskinson Rejects Exit Rumors, Steps Away From X and Calls for Cardano Reform

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has publicly rejected rumors that he is leaving Cardano or stepping down from the ecosystem, following growing speculation across social media and crypto media outlets. In a new 26 minute video, Hoskinson confirmed that he remains committed to Cardano, but announced that he is stepping away from public content, canceling interviews and reducing his activity on X while he reflects on the project's future direction.

What began as a response to exit rumors quickly expanded into a broader discussion about Cardano's culture, governance, builder sustainability and long term vision. Hoskinson addressed the impact of online toxicity, the pressure surrounding ADA price performance, the role of the Cardano Foundation, and the future of initiatives including Leios, Midnight and Bitcoin programmability.

Charles Hoskinson Steps Back From X

A significant portion of the video focused on social media and its impact on public discussion within the Cardano ecosystem. Hoskinson referenced an analysis of approximately 130 replies to his posts, which found that roughly one third contained hostile, abusive or personally targeted language.

According to Hoskinson, X has become increasingly difficult to use as a platform for meaningful conversations about Cardano's future. He said the constant stream of personal attacks has affected both him and those close to him, leading to his decision to reduce his presence on the platform and explore alternative community spaces with clearer standards of conduct and moderation.

The move does not represent a departure from Cardano itself. Hoskinson stated that he will continue working on Midnight and other initiatives, but plans to spend less time engaging through public videos, interviews and social media discussions.

Cardano Faces a Question of Identity

One of the central themes of the video was Hoskinson's view that Cardano is facing a deeper challenge than market performance alone. He contrasted what he described as major progress in decentralization, research, engineering and protocol development with growing frustration from community members focused primarily on token price performance.

Hoskinson emphasized that his own priorities remain centered on research, privacy technologies, Bitcoin integration, RealFi initiatives and solving difficult technical problems. He specifically highlighted Leios, Bitcoin programmability and Midnight as areas that continue to drive his involvement in the ecosystem. During the video, he also reiterated that the Leios public testnet is expected to launch on June 23, 2026.

He argued that Cardano must ultimately decide whether its primary purpose is short term price appreciation or the development of long term infrastructure and decentralized systems. Hoskinson stated that if the ecosystem's sole objective is increasing token prices, he is not the right person to lead that effort.

Governance, Builder Sustainability and a New Roadmap

The governance section of the video included some of Hoskinson's strongest comments to date about accountability within the Cardano ecosystem. He pointed to challenges faced by projects such as JPEG Store and TapTools, arguing that Cardano needs stronger mechanisms to support teams building products and infrastructure that the broader ecosystem depends on.

Hoskinson also delivered sharp criticism of the Cardano Foundation, stating that ADA holders have limited ability to directly influence its leadership, decisions or operations. He described the governance structure surrounding the Foundation as the biggest mistake of his career and argued that organizations operating within the ecosystem should be accountable to the communities they serve.

Looking ahead, Hoskinson outlined three priorities that he believes could shape Cardano's next chapter: moving community discussions away from toxic social media environments, bringing new leadership and new ideas into the ecosystem, and creating a new roadmap capable of uniting stakeholders around a shared vision.

The video ended with a call for reflection across the ecosystem. Rather than presenting a detailed reform package, Hoskinson framed the coming months as a period for evaluating Cardano's direction, governance structures and priorities. His message was that the project's future will depend not only on technology, but also on the community's willingness to define what Cardano stands for, how leadership is held accountable and which goals will guide the ecosystem through its next phase of development.
