Cardano Foundation Joins UNDP’s 2026 SDG Blockchain Accelerator

The United Nations Development Programme’s Alternative Finance Lab has opened applications for the 2026 SDG Blockchain Accelerator, a global program focused on developing technology solutions for active UN initiatives.

Cardano Foundation is participating as one of the technology partners supporting selected teams with technical expertise and blockchain infrastructure. Applications remain open until September 30, 2026.

UNDP Starts With Real Problems Before Choosing Technology

The accelerator is open to UNDP country offices, global teams and other UN entities that already have active programs, institutional ownership and a clear path toward implementation.

Applicants are not required to have previous blockchain or AI experience and do not need to choose a technology in advance. Instead, teams define a specific operational problem, identify who is affected and describe the outcome they want to achieve.

Potential use cases include digital payments, digital identity, traceability, supply chains, data infrastructure and privacy.

Selected teams will then be matched with relevant technology partners and supported through solution development and implementation planning.

Cardano Enters a Multi-Chain UN Technology Program

The accelerator is run by UNDP AltFinLab in strategic partnership with Blockchain for Good Alliance.

Cardano Foundation joins Stellar Development Foundation, Partisia Foundation, DFINITY Foundation and FLock.io in the technology partner group.

The program is not built around a single blockchain. Technologies are matched to individual UN projects according to their requirements.

For Cardano, that creates a route into use cases where verifiable records, identity, traceability and supply chain infrastructure may be relevant. These are also areas already represented in Cardano Foundation’s broader enterprise and public-sector work.

The Foundation included the accelerator in its August activity report as part of its efforts to connect blockchain infrastructure with organizations seeking practical implementations.

Previous Cohorts Produced 46 Deployment-Ready Solutions

The 2026 program follows two previous editions involving 50 teams.

According to UNDP, those cohorts produced 46 deployment-ready solutions. Around 70% were integrated into existing national or regional programs, while 12 progressed into country-level pilots.

The new edition places greater emphasis on projects that already have institutional ownership and a realistic route to deployment.

Applications close on September 30, after which selected UN challenges will be matched with technology partners.

Cardano Foundation’s participation now creates the possibility for Cardano infrastructure to be evaluated against specific UN use cases, with successful matches able to progress from technical support into real-world deployment.
