Cardano Connects to Injective Through Its First Live IBC Rail
Cardano and Injective have activated a direct IBC connection on testnet, enabling cross-chain transfers between the two networks and establishing a new interoperability route for ADA and INJ.

Cardano and Injective are now connected through the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol on testnet, making Injective the first blockchain with a live on-chain IBC rail to Cardano. The integration enables test transfers between Cardano Preprod and the Injective testnet, with both ecosystems confirming the connection on August 3.
The deployment remains pre-production. A mainnet rollout is required before the infrastructure can carry production assets.
Injective Becomes Cardano’s First Live IBC Connection
The connection allows ADA to move to the Injective test environment and INJ to Cardano, with both assets intended to become available across the two ecosystems once the integration reaches production.
Cardano Foundation has also provided a testing path for users and developers to experiment with transfers on the current infrastructure.
Injective is a Layer 1 blockchain focused on financial applications, including decentralized trading, derivatives and DeFi infrastructure. The integration creates a direct interoperability route between Injective and Cardano despite the networks using different underlying architectures.
The deployment follows earlier development work. In its June 2026 activity update, Cardano Foundation reported that Injective had implemented the Cardano IBC module and that the beta integration was already running on testnet.
Cardano Implements IBC Outside the Cosmos Stack
IBC is widely used across the Cosmos ecosystem as a standardized protocol for communication between independent blockchains, supporting the transfer of assets and data across connected networks.
Cardano is not built with the Cosmos SDK, requiring a Cardano-specific implementation of the protocol.
Development through the Cardano IBC Incubator includes a Cardano light client, relayer support and on-chain components for cross-chain communication. The current implementation provides the infrastructure required for fungible token transfers while remaining experimental and pre-production.
The result is an IBC route built specifically for Cardano while remaining compatible with a communication standard already used across the wider Interchain ecosystem.
Mainnet Is the Next Step for Cardano and Injective
Moving the connection to mainnet would turn the current test rail into usable cross-chain infrastructure.
ADA could then become available to applications on Injective, while INJ could reach Cardano applications through the same route. The underlying IBC architecture could also support additional compatible connections beyond Injective.
For now, the integration is limited to Cardano Preprod and the Injective testnet. Production liquidity and DeFi activity are therefore not part of the current deployment.
The August 3 launch establishes something more concrete: Cardano now has a functioning IBC connection to another blockchain, with assets already moving across the route in test environments. The next technical boundary is mainnet, where the same infrastructure would begin carrying production ADA and INJ between Cardano and Injective.
