World Mobile Reports 164,500 AirNodes as Colombia Deployment Shows Network Use

World Mobile has published a new infrastructure snapshot showing 164,500 total AirNodes as of September 4, 2026. The DePIN project also released a field report from Colombia showing how its connectivity infrastructure was used following widespread mobile network failures.

World Mobile Reports 164,500 AirNodes

World Mobile Chain reported the 164,500 AirNode figure on September 5, based on a network snapshot taken at 16:00 UTC the previous day.

AirNodes form part of World Mobile's physical telecom infrastructure, extending wireless connectivity through distributed deployments rather than relying exclusively on conventional mobile operators.

The project combines this infrastructure with blockchain-based coordination and the $WMTX token across its wider ecosystem.

World Mobile did not specify how many of the reported AirNodes were actively online, carrying traffic or operating commercially at the time of the snapshot.

Colombia Deployment Provides Free WiFi After Earthquake

World Mobile also published a two-part field report on September 4 and 5 covering its deployment in Darién, Colombia.

According to the company, an earthquake on August 10 affected 1,929 conventional mobile sites. World Mobile said its first AirNode at the Centro de Integración Ciudadana was used to provide free WiFi connectivity in the area.

The earthquake and deployment occurred before the latest reporting window, while the September posts provide new documentation of how the infrastructure was used.

World Mobile did not publish user numbers, traffic volumes or the duration of connectivity provided by the node.

World Mobile Expands Its DePIN Infrastructure

World Mobile is a decentralized physical infrastructure project focused on telecom connectivity. Its network combines physical nodes, blockchain infrastructure and the $WMTX ecosystem across multiple markets and blockchain environments.

The project originated with strong ties to Cardano and remains connected to the ecosystem as its infrastructure expands beyond a single chain.

The September update places World Mobile's reported footprint at 164,500 AirNodes and documents one deployment being used during a real-world connectivity disruption in Colombia. The company did not include an active-node count or network traffic data in the latest snapshot.
