Cardano News - Thomas Kammerlocher Show Cardano x402 With 3D Print Orders

Thomas Kammerlocher, developer for Cardano Foundation wey contribute to Cardano official x402 implementation, show how paid web request fit connect to physical order. For one Developer Office Hours session wey dem prepare for the TOKEN2049 hackathon, e present API payments, one Masumi agent service, and one application wey link to im 3D printer.

How Cardano x402 Dey Process Paid Request

x402 allow server to communicate payment requirements through the HTTP 402 Payment Required response. Client go receive the price, accepted asset, network, and destination, then submit authorized payment with the next request.

The service provider fit use facilitator to verify the payment and submit the transaction. Once settlement meet the configured requirements, the server go release the requested resource.

The first demonstration from Kammerlocher charge two test ADA for one API response. The user sign through wallet, while the application display the payment terms and the settlement process.

This workflow allow providers to charge for individual reports, data requests, or computations without recurring subscription. Applications still determine wetin dem wan sell and the conditions wey dem go take grant access.

Masumi Escrow and Connected 3D Printer

Second demonstration use Masumi, Cardano infrastructure for payments between AI agents. The example service reverse and capitalize submitted text for one test USDM.

Instead make buyer pay provider directly, the buyer lock funds inside escrow contract. The agent perform the task and return result, with payment collection wey the contract timing and dispute procedures dey govern. To record result no mean say e automatically meet buyer expectation.

The physical product example connect order form and x402 payment to Kammerlocher printer through the Moonraker API.

E use Preprod during the presentation and describe separate mainnet option to order actual printed item, with ten ADA covering shipping. Printing connect to the application, but packaging and mailing still remain manual tasks.

Small Payments Need Extra Settlement Options

The Cardano implementation support direct address payments, Masumi escrow, and interactions with other supported scripts. These routes fit different services without changing the basic web payment exchange.

Very small charges get extra funding requirements. Cardano transactions get network fees, and transaction outputs must contain minimum amount of ADA. The minimum output value different from the fee, but the two go affect wetin customer must provide.

Kammerlocher point out payment channels and batching as approaches wey dem dey discuss. Hydra no enter the initial specification wey dem present for the session, even with the related work with the Masumi team.

The workshop starting points wey dem make available na the installable Cardano package, open source examples, and facilitator software. Lower cost settlement for repeated small purchases still be extension beyond that initial implementation.
