Cardano News - Teragone Test IPFS Distribution for Cardano Mithril Snapshots

According to Intersect October 30 weekly update, Teragone don complete proof of concept to distribute and restore Mithril snapshots through IPFS.

Intersect report say two milestones, M1.1 and M1.2, don get approval for combined 658,718 ADA. The work include changes to Mithril aggregator and client, testing infrastructure, plus documentation of the results.

A New Distribution Path for Mithril Data

Mithril na Cardano protocol wey dey use stake-based signatures to certify blockchain data. One application allow node to download and verify certified database snapshot, help am prepare for use without to synchronize the whole chain from the beginning.

Participating stake pool operators dey sign the data, and aggregator dey combine those signatures into certificate. Then Mithril client fit use the certificate to verify the downloaded snapshot.

Teragone test check how to distribute and restore snapshot data through IPFS, system wey allow computers store and share content across network. Intersect describe the work as way to reduce dependence on centralized cloud infrastructure.

The proof of concept still examine the changes wey need for the aggregator and client. The findings aim to guide initial functional version of the IPFS approach.

Mithril Team Prepares a Phased Rollout

According to Mithril technical lead Jean-Philippe Raynaud October 28 development update, the team don define strategy to introduce IPFS distribution gradually.

Developers still document how to replicate immutable archives using Kubo node, one implementation of IPFS. These archives contain portions of Cardano blockchain database wey no suppose change again.

The team continue work on way to set the proportion of downloads wey IPFS go handle inside the Mithril client. That work still dey progress as at the time of the update.

Earlier Mithril release, distribution 2642, introduce preliminary IPFS support as storage location for immutable files. The team October 21 report describe the support as unstable.

Approved Milestones and Next Development Steps

Intersect report say milestones M1.1 and M1.2 don get approval for combined 658,718 ADA. The organization update no talk say dem don pay the amount already.

Raynaud October 28 report also note say the team don address findings from audits of both milestones. Alongside the IPFS work, developers continue prepare upgrade to Cardano Node 11.2.

Mithril don already dey certify Cardano blockchain data. For snapshot distribution, Intersect proposed next stage go use the proof-of-concept results to develop initial IPFS implementation, while cloud storage go still remain available as fallback.
