OriginateNavio Turns Cardano Wine Traceability Into Open-Source Infrastructure
Cardano Foundation is positioning OriginateNavio as an open-source reference implementation for product provenance, building on a Georgian deployment covering more than 30 wineries and over 100,000 bottles. The system links physical goods with verifiable records on Cardano through QR codes and enterprise APIs.

Cardano Foundation is expanding the role of OriginateNavio beyond its Georgian wine deployment by making the underlying traceability architecture available as open-source infrastructure. Built to verify product origin, certification and authenticity, the system connects physical goods with tamper-evident records anchored on Cardano.
The technology is already being used in Georgia, where more than 30 wineries have connected provenance data for over 100,000 bottles to the blockchain.
Cardano Anchors Georgian Wine Provenance On-Chain
OriginateNavio builds on Cardano Foundation’s work with Georgia’s National Wine Agency and wineries in the Bolnisi region. The initiative was designed to trace wine through the production process and allow consumers to verify the history and authenticity of individual bottles.
The system combines physical identifiers with digital provenance records. Consumers scan a QR code attached to a bottle and access information that can be checked against data anchored to Cardano.
The workflow covers data collection, product identification, blockchain anchoring and verification. Cardano operates as the underlying verification layer, while consumers interact with a familiar QR-based interface rather than directly with wallets or blockchain tools.
According to Cardano Foundation, the implementation now covers more than 30 Georgian wineries and over 100,000 bottles.
OriginateNavio Opens the Traceability Stack to Developers
Cardano Foundation has released OriginateNavio under the Apache 2.0 open-source license, allowing developers and traceability providers to reuse and adapt the architecture.
The project includes API, frontend, mobile and Metabus components. Businesses can register producers, create product batches, record certification events and retrieve historical provenance information, while mobile functionality supports QR scanning and field-based data entry.
Metabus connects the business layer with Cardano. It creates references from supplied data, prepares the associated blockchain metadata and submits transactions through Cardano infrastructure.
Full commercial datasets do not need to be stored directly on-chain. Supporting information can remain in external systems while cryptographic references and relevant metadata are anchored to the ledger, preserving verifiability without requiring companies to move their entire data infrastructure onto a blockchain.
OriginateNavio also exposes APIs designed to work with existing ERP, quality assurance and traceability systems, allowing blockchain verification to be added to established enterprise workflows.
Wine Provides a Model for Other Supply Chains
The architecture is not limited to wine. Cardano Foundation lists food and beverages, luxury goods, pharmaceuticals, automotive parts, chemicals and plastics among the sectors where the same provenance framework can be applied.
Across those industries, the model is similar: identify a physical product or batch, connect it with structured supply-chain data, anchor verifiable evidence to Cardano and make that evidence accessible through a consumer or enterprise interface.
The Georgian wine deployment gives OriginateNavio a live implementation behind that model. Its open-source release now allows other organizations to use the same components without building a provenance stack from scratch.
That changes the scope of the project. Infrastructure originally used to connect Georgian wineries, certification records and consumers can now be adapted by other developers and businesses seeking independently verifiable product origin on Cardano.
