Cardano News - Midnight Winds Down DevRel Team in AI Support Shift

Midnight Foundation confirmed on September 10 that it had wound down its dedicated Developer Relations team as part of a change in developer strategy. The organization said it wants to expand who can build on Midnight, the privacy-focused Cardano partner chain associated with the NIGHT ecosystem.

The announcement reached nearly 50,000 views on X and generated questions about technical assistance, education, and the roles of existing DevRel contributors. Midnight did not disclose how many team members were affected or how their responsibilities would be reassigned.

Midnight Changes Its Developer Support Model

Developer Relations teams typically provide documentation, code examples, workshops, technical troubleshooting, and onboarding for teams entering an ecosystem.

Midnight Foundation described the decision as a strategic change rather than a withdrawal from developer support. According to its announcement, the new approach is intended to reduce entry barriers and make development resources available to a broader group of builders.

Midnight allows developers to create applications that use zero-knowledge technology to keep selected information private while allowing other parts of an interaction to be verified. Potential applications include private financial services, digital identity, AI agents, and enterprise systems requiring controlled data disclosure.

Building these applications requires developers to manage public and private state, cryptographic proofs, and rules governing which information can be disclosed.

AI Moves Into Developer Assistance

Sebastien Guillemot, CTO of Midnight Foundation, connected the new strategy with artificial intelligence, formal verification, documentation, and well-structured code. He described the combination as capable of providing developers with continuous, personalized assistance.

Under that model, AI would help developers navigate documentation, produce code examples, and identify technical problems. Formal verification would provide additional checks against defined rules and expected program behavior.

The Foundation has not yet identified the specific tools that will deliver these functions. For Midnight and the wider NIGHT ecosystem, the transition changes how new builders may learn Compact, work with zero-knowledge components, and obtain assistance while developing privacy applications.

Builders Seek Details on Human Support

Community responses focused on the status of existing team members and the continuity of current developer programs. Several builders asked whether familiar DevRel contributors would remain connected to Midnight and who would assume responsibility for their activities.

Part of the discussion followed media coverage that presented the decision as a wider shutdown of Midnight’s development operations. Cardano DRep Isauro Bargas criticized that framing, arguing that ending a dedicated DevRel team was not equivalent to stopping development of the platform.

Midnight Foundation has not announced the suspension of its developer programs, documentation, or network development. The confirmed organizational change concerns the dedicated DevRel team, while future assistance is being redirected toward an AI-supported model.

As of September 13, Midnight had not published release dates for the new tools, human escalation channels for complex technical cases, or details about the continuation of existing workshops. Those elements will define how the new support structure operates for developers building on Midnight.
