Cardano News - Midnight Expands in Japan With First NIGHT Order Book

Japanese crypto exchange OKJ has announced a NIGHT listing that will bring order book trading to the token’s Japanese market. The company identifies the offering as the first of its kind among registered domestic crypto asset exchanges, based on its market review as of October 10, 2026.

OKJ Adds Order Book Trading in Japan

The announcement follows Midnight’s earlier entry into Japan through S.BLOX. The Sony group company began supporting the token on August 24, 2026, introducing domestic access through its brokerage service.

An order book adds a different trading mechanism. Participants can view available buy and sell orders, including prices and quantities, and submit limit orders at their chosen price. Trades execute when compatible orders meet.

Brokerage customers buy or sell directly at prices quoted by the service provider. By supporting both formats, OKJ will offer a choice between accepting a provider’s quote and placing orders in a market shared with other participants. The new venue extends the token’s Japanese trading options beyond its existing brokerage availability.

Midnight’s Public Token and Cardano Transfers

Midnight is a blockchain for applications that need to verify information while protecting sensitive data. Its zero-knowledge smart contracts allow developers to establish that conditions have been met without publishing all the information used to prove them.

These capabilities support financial and identity applications where users or businesses need selective disclosure. The network’s token remains a public, transparent asset, while its resource model separates token ownership from transaction execution costs.

Token holdings generate DUST, a renewable resource used to execute transactions and smart contracts. Developers can use that resource to cover application activity without requiring users to spend the underlying token on each interaction.

Originally issued on Cardano, the token also connects Midnight’s ecosystem with Cardano wallets and asset infrastructure. OKJ has selected Cardano as the supported network for deposits and withdrawals.

October 13 Launch Requires Upgraded OKJ System

The launch is scheduled for October 13 at 5:00 p.m. JST, or 08:00 UTC, with the exact start time subject to change. Alongside exchange and brokerage trading, the rollout includes recurring purchases for customers using scheduled buying plans.

Access to the order book depends on completing OKJ’s trading system upgrade. The exchange specifies that the new market will be available exclusively in the upgraded environment.

OKJ’s migration instructions also distinguish between deposit balances and trading balances: after upgrading, customers must transfer funds into their trading account before placing exchange orders.
