Hoskinson: Cardano Has “A Lot of Unfinished Business” and the Strategy Needs to Change
Charles Hoskinson has reaffirmed his commitment to Cardano while pointing to RealFi, Bitcoin DeFi and Midnight as part of the work still ahead. After a difficult period for the crypto industry, he also acknowledged that achieving those goals will require a different approach.

Charles Hoskinson has outlined the work he intends to continue across Cardano and related projects, describing Cardano as having “a lot of unfinished business” while acknowledging that the strategy used to pursue broader ecosystem goals needs to change.
The comments came in a video initially focused on his dispute with journalist Gareth Jenkinson and criticism of crypto media. The discussion later moved to the state of the industry, Hoskinson’s continued involvement with Cardano and the initiatives he intends to pursue.
Crypto Entered 2026 With Expectations Unmet
Hoskinson described the current crypto environment as significantly different from what he expected entering 2025.
He recalled expectations for peace, growth, greater certainty and an industry moving toward a more mature stage. Instead, he described a period marked by war, contraction and uncertainty, alongside growing frustration across the sector.
Despite that assessment, he said the philosophy, direction and goals behind his work have not changed. Decentralized technology, in his view, still has the capacity to expand financial access and support infrastructure capable of operating beyond traditional centralized systems.
The difference now is strategic. Hoskinson acknowledged later in the video that the approach used to pursue those objectives needs to change, including elements of his own public communication.
RealFi, Bitcoin DeFi and Midnight Remain on the Agenda
Hoskinson identified three areas of ongoing work before returning directly to Cardano.
RealFi was linked to the objective of banking the unbanked, continuing the effort to use blockchain infrastructure for financial access beyond conventional banking systems.
He also referenced Pogun in connection with building a DeFi layer for Bitcoin, placing decentralized finance around Bitcoin among the projects he still intends to advance.
Midnight remains focused on bringing privacy to a broader audience. The project is developing privacy-oriented blockchain infrastructure around programmable data protection and selective disclosure, extending the wider Cardano ecosystem into applications where sensitive information cannot simply be placed on a fully transparent ledger.
Hoskinson then summarized the Cardano side of that agenda directly:
“We have a lot of unfinished business with Cardano.”
He followed the statement by confirming that he intends to remain involved and continue working across these initiatives.
Cardano Goals Remain, but the Approach Needs to Change
Hoskinson paired that commitment with an acknowledgment that the existing approach has not always been effective.
He said he still believes the projects can succeed, but that both the approach and strategy need to change. He specifically cited his relationship with the media as an area where his own methods have at times been ineffective.
The video also established a boundary for future interviews. Hoskinson no longer wants conversations centered on the six months he spent at Ethereum more than a decade ago and asked media outlets not to introduce him primarily as an Ethereum co-founder.
He remains willing to discuss Ethereum in its current context, including comparisons with Cardano and Midnight, but said he will no longer participate in repeated biographical discussions about his time there.
His stated agenda instead remains centered on unfinished projects: expanding financial access through RealFi, developing Bitcoin-focused DeFi through Pogun, advancing privacy through Midnight and continuing work on Cardano itself.
The change Hoskinson described is therefore not a new destination for Cardano. It is a recognition that reaching the existing one will require a different strategy.
