Cardano News - FC Barcelona Launches Barça Fan Lab on Cardano

FC Barcelona has launched Barça Fan Lab, a digital platform developed with Andamio using Cardano infrastructure. Supporters can learn about the club’s history and values, participate in community activities, and receive digital credentials and access tokens connected to their BarçaID accounts.

The launch moves a multiyear Cardano initiative from a Project Catalyst proposal into an operating product carrying the FC Barcelona brand. Its first version focuses on education, participation, and verifiable recognition of supporter contributions.

BarçaID Connects Fans to a Cardano Portfolio

Barça Fan Lab uses the existing BarçaID system as the entry point to its digital experience. After signing in, each user can access a personal Cardano Web3 portfolio designed to receive and store credentials and access tokens earned through the platform.

This structure allows FC Barcelona to introduce blockchain functionality without requiring supporters to begin by learning about addresses, network fees, or Cardano transaction mechanics. BarçaID remains the familiar user layer, while Cardano provides the infrastructure for issuing and verifying digital achievements.

The program is organized into four areas. The first covers FC Barcelona’s history, identity, and values, including the meaning of “Més que un club.” The second addresses sustainability, inclusion, women’s empowerment, technology, and responsible digital innovation.

A third area explores how physical supporter communities can expand into digital participation. The fourth introduces practical Web3 applications connected to Barça, including digital credentials, collectibles, supporter participation mechanisms, blockchain loyalty systems, portfolios, NFTs, and smart contracts.

The initial product is therefore structured around learning pathways and community participation. Fans can complete activities, build a record of their involvement, and receive recognition that can be verified beyond a conventional club database.

Andamio Turns Participation Into Verifiable Credentials

Andamio is a Cardano based platform for creating educational programs, managing contributions, and issuing digital credentials. Organizations can define what a credential represents, which requirements users must complete, and what access or opportunities the credential can provide.

An Andamio credential is not limited to a visual badge inside one application. It can carry information about its issuer, the completed program, and the verified achievement. Other applications can then recognize the credential and use it as a condition for accessing content, activities, or benefits.

Within Barça Fan Lab, a supporter can progress through learning content, complete an activity, and receive verifiable recognition. The wider model is designed to move supporters from consuming club content toward contributing to community and social initiatives.

Andamio cofounder James Dunseith said the team spent two years working behind the scenes to bring one of the world’s largest brands to Cardano. He credited Barça Vision, Andamio, and UTXOS with bringing the project to life. FC Barcelona’s official announcement identifies Andamio as the technology partner but does not describe UTXOS’s specific technical role.

The published materials also do not specify the custody model for user portfolios, the credential standard used in the final implementation, or how many current activities generate Cardano transactions. Those figures will become measurable as supporters begin using the platform.

Catalyst Funding Moves From Proposal to Product

Barça Fan Lab is connected to the “FC Barcelona Fan Engagement Infrastructure Cardano” project approved through Project Catalyst Fund 13. The initiative requested 1,425,000 ADA to develop learning programs, contribution systems, digital rewards, and verifiable credentials.

At the time of review, the public Catalyst tracker listed 789,500 ADA as distributed and 635,500 ADA as remaining. The tracker continued to classify the project as in progress, with later stages covering community participation, program evaluation, scaling, and the final closeout report.

The Catalyst proposal estimated that each participant could generate between four and ten onchain transactions during a complete learning and contribution cycle. The initial projection targeted more than one million transactions through credential issuance, contribution verification, reward distribution, and digital asset activity.

These are project targets rather than reported results. The proposal defines new portfolios, issued credentials, active users, smart contract interactions, and transaction volume as measurable indicators. Barça Fan Lab can therefore be evaluated through visible product usage rather than the size of FC Barcelona’s audience alone.

The operational change for Cardano is already concrete. A Catalyst funded proposal connected to one of the world’s most recognizable sports organizations now has a live, Barça branded interface accessed through BarçaID. Cardano has moved from the project documentation into a fan experience capable of recording what supporters learn, how they participate, and which credentials they earn.
