Cardano News - Cardano Catalyst Ties New 2.5M ADA Pilot to Real Product Usage

Project Catalyst has detailed a new 2.5 million ADA pilot that will fund 10 to 15 product teams while linking most payments to actual on-chain usage. The program targets working products that can integrate recently added Cardano infrastructure and reach mainnet within three months.

The Cardano Foundation originally announced the pilot in June with a two million ada grant pool. The current Catalyst Pilot page now lists the total fund at 2.5 million, with applications scheduled to open in August and remain available for two weeks after launch.

Catalyst Targets Products Ready for Mainnet

Individual grants will range from 50,000 to 200,000, with the pilot open specifically to product teams capable of delivering a working Cardano solution within three months.

Applicants must build around at least one of four areas: oracles, stablecoins, programmable tokens or on-chain identity.

The published integration scope includes Pyth oracle feeds, stablecoins such as USDM and USDCx, programmable tokens based on CIP-0113 and on-chain identity through CIP-0170. The original Cardano Foundation announcement also listed Brale, subject to its availability when the fund launches.

Proposals must include a build plan, usage targets and a strategy for attracting users after launch. Selected products must reach mainnet with at least one real transaction during the initial three-month development period.

Most Catalyst Funding Depends on Usage

Only 40% of the approved grant is distributed during onboarding.

Once a product reaches mainnet, teams can receive up to another 40% based on performance against their stated adoption targets. A further 20% becomes available if relevant usage continues two months after the previous measurement.

The pilot measures adoption through network fees generated by users interacting with funded products. Selected teams will apply a standard transaction label, allowing their activity to appear automatically on a public dashboard and Cardano leaderboard.

Up to four of the strongest-performing projects can also receive a bonus worth as much as 50% of their initial grant. Bonus eligibility is based on usage relative to the size of the original funding allocation.

The structure moves a substantial part of Catalyst funding beyond development milestones alone. A product must first reach mainnet and then generate measurable activity before the full grant becomes available.

Expert Curation Replaces Full Public Voting

The selection process also differs from previous full Catalyst funds.

Instead of the multi-stage public voting process used in earlier rounds, the pilot will use a simplified community expert curation model. Applications will move through compliance checks and technical and business review before final selection.

The program is being funded from undistributed resources left from previous Catalyst rounds, including funding connected with projects that withdrew or did not complete required goals. The Foundation said this allows the pilot to proceed without a new Cardano Treasury withdrawal.

Applications have not yet opened. The official Catalyst page states that submissions will begin during August and close two weeks after launch.

The first selected cohort will therefore test more than a new Catalyst funding round. Within three months, funded teams must move from proposal to live Cardano products, after which network usage will determine how much of the remaining funding they receive. For the pilot, delivery gets a product onto mainnet, but adoption determines how far the grant continues.
