Amaru has reached a new stage as an alternative Cardano node implementation. Intersect reported on August 14 that the node is now relay-capable, validating blockchain data and synchronizing to the Cardano mainnet tip, with block production targeted for November 2026.

Reaching that target would move Amaru from relay operations into the block-producing layer of Cardano infrastructure.

Amaru Now Operates as a Cardano Relay

Amaru is an open-source Cardano node written in Rust and developed within PRAGMA. Its long-term objective is to operate alongside Cardano’s existing Haskell nodes as a full block-producing implementation.

The current relay milestone means Amaru can validate chain data, follow the network and remain synchronized with the tip without producing blocks itself.

That gives the project a functioning role inside Cardano infrastructure while development continues toward direct consensus participation.

Mainnet Block Production Is Targeted for November

Intersect’s latest update places a concrete target on the next phase, with mainnet block production planned for November 2026. The date remains a development target rather than a confirmed production release.

A block-producing Amaru node would give Cardano an independently developed Rust implementation capable of operating alongside the existing Haskell node stack.

PRAGMA links that objective directly to node diversity, reducing reliance on a single implementation path while expanding the engineering base around Cardano infrastructure.

Amaru is also working with Antithesis on testing designed to make node failures easier to reproduce and diagnose, adding another layer of preparation before block production moves to mainnet.

Amaru Moves Into Dijkstra Readiness

The progress comes as Cardano prepares for the Dijkstra hard fork.

Intersect has started tracking Dijkstra readiness across the ecosystem and is bringing alternative node teams into the process of evaluating planned protocol changes. The Hard Fork Working Group is also documenting breaking changes earlier so independent implementations can assess compatibility before deployment.

For Amaru, that means block-production development is advancing while the protocol it must support is also changing.

If the November target is reached, Amaru will move from validating and relaying Cardano traffic to producing blocks directly on mainnet. That would make node diversity operational at the consensus layer rather than remaining limited to alternative relay infrastructure.
